Around Town:

Glenridge is a fictional small town set in California's wine country. It hosts a population of about 900 people, and is supported largely by tourists. The town is located at the base of a hill, and above is located the Orlione Vineyards, The Water's Edge Resort and Spa, and the Glenridge Reservoir, a huge man made lake where locals and tourists alike can swim, boat, fish, or camp. The town itself is fairly small. There is a main drag where most businesses are located, and its residents live on side streets that make up the rest of the town. It has a quaint feel to it, and several travel magazines have written it up, as a charming must see destination on your California Wine Country tour.

To foster a sense of community the mayor had a community message board set up and all the towns users were encouraged to sign-up and sign on to blog about their fair town.

Orlione Vineyards
What is a town in wine country without a vineyard? Though the Orlione Vineyard is small in comparison to the vineyards of the area, it has made quite a name for itself. It produces a limited number of bottles a year, and distribution is kept to a few elite circles. The best place to find a bottle is the vineyard itself, and the resort and restaurants in the surrounding town.
staff:
The Water's Edge Resort and Spa
Those who come for the vineyard often find themselves staying for this 5 star resort and spa. Located at the edge of the Glenridge Reservoir, This resort offers first class comfort for all its guests. Their spa has been raved about in several travel magazines, and they also offer boating tours on the reservoir and package offers to the vineyards in the area.

The Wine Cellar
In a town that thrives off its local vineyard, The Wine Cellar is at the top of it's game. It features an extensive wine list, and a menu designed specifically around what local wines will go best with your meal. It is an upscale establishment that the tourists love, but even the locals can find room in their hearts for its delicious fare.

Carafe
What is business without a little competition? Located a few doors down from The Wine Cellar, Carafe is it's main source of competition. Their wine list is just as extensive as The Wine Cellar's, and their food as upscale and tasty, but their draw is their "wine tasters" option. You can enjoy sample entrees while tasting various wines from around the region and getting a little history about each bottle and vineyard. It's like a wine tour without the hassle of traveling, and with a delicious meal included.

Wings
This sports bar is a local favorite. You can find any game on one of their 15 plasma flat screens, and enjoy one of their extensive micro-brews. They also feature family fare and they're best known for their chicken wings (surprise, surprise!)

The Side Street Saloon
This is where most of the nightlife in Glenridge takes place--if you can call it that. The bar has a little bit of a dive feel to it, but what it lacks in elegance it makes up for in live music, cheap drinks, and a great atmosphere. It's a local's bar, but even the tourists who wander in there generally have a good time.

Mort's Drive-In
Nothing says small town charm like a drive-in. Patrons can catch one of 3 rotating films each week (or the double feature on Fridays), from the comfort of their vehicles. No car? No problem. You're welcome to bring a blanket or some lawn chairs. The sound is broadcast over a standard AM signal, so all you need is a radio to hear. There's a large concession hut with tasty treats, and since it's located on the edge of town, there's no worry about light pollution ruining the show.
staff:
Split Lanes Bowl-o-Rama
This local teen hang out features both 10 pin bowling and candle pin bowling for those who like to mix it up. It hosts league nights during the weekdays and it's a local teen hot spot on the weekends. There's also a side room with several arcade games and two pool tables, so there's a little something for everyone.

Page by Page: Bookstore and Cafe
This small bookstore is another local favorite. You can find a good book, and then enjoy it with a coffee and a scone. Even if you're not looking for something to read, the cafe has coffee and tea down to an art form. Once a month the store hosts a slam poetry night, or a book reading/signing featuring a different local author.

Splash Zone
If you're looking for sporting goods, this is the place to go. They offer fishing and boating equipment rentals as well as boating lessons. If you're looking to buy, that's no problem. They have a wide variety of boats and equipment. If you need anything outdoorsy, this is the place to go.

The Glenridge Market
This market isn't the biggest, but it has everything the residents of Glenridge need, and you can count on your purchases coming with a courteous, friendly smile. The store does weekly grocery deliveries to the elderly, or those who just can't get into town regularly, and the manager has even been known to get in certain groceries, based on customer requests.
staff:
Glenridge Motors - Auto Repair
It's not always easy to find good help, but those who trust their cars with Glenridge Motors are never left complaining. This small business gives honest quotes, and helpful advice. Everyone in town will tell you, you get more than what you pay for, and no one goes out of town to get their car fixed, unless they have to.

Miss Mary's School of Dance
Miss Mary's is an institution for the girls in the town. It's been open since the 1960s when Miss Mary was just a young girl looking to share her love of dance. Now it seems that most of the women who grew up in the town took a class or two at Miss Mary's.

Convenient Medical Care
The name says it all: this little family practice clinic is where you go for quick, convenient medical care. The town doesn't have a hospital, so they can only treat minor injuries, but they have an x-ray machine, and a knowledgeable staff. Even if it's something like a broken bone, they're the people to see.
staff: [info]maggi, [info]walke
Glenridge Elementary and Junior High
Glenridge is a small town, so it doesn't need much of a school system. To keep their school budget reasonable, they only have an elementary/junior high, that hosts grades K through 8. The classes are always a little small, and so when it comes time for high school they are bused to neighboring Sonoma where they are integrated with lots of kids from neighboring towns.
staff:
The Glenridge Sheriff's Station
Being the small town that it is, Glenwood shares its police and fire department with a neighboring town. Gledridge houses the sheriff's department, while neighboring Crestwood has the fire station. Glenridge has a volunteer fire department to help cut the time between call and response, but for the most part the system works well for the two small towns.
